You're The Apple Of My Eye（那些年，我们一起追的女孩）is a 2011 Taiwan romance film, according to the writer Giddens Ko (九把刀). Giddens Ko not only the writer of the novel and he also the director of this movie. This film is the first film direct by Giddens Ko.The theme of the film is "those years" lyrics, written by Giddens. This song was popular , in the 48th Golden Horse Award was nominated for the best original movie.

The story was set in 1994 in Jingcheng High School. The story center around the actor Ke Chin Teng (nickname “ Keteng”), He has several friends which is Cao Guo Sheng (nickname “Lacao”) ,Liao Yinghong (nickname "the side"), Xie Ming and (nicknamed "Ah He") and others. All of them crush on Shen Jia Yi, the outstanding student. She is is popular among her teachers and classmates. Although Ke Ching Teng and Shen Jia yi was study in the same class since junior high school. One day, Ching-teng is caught masturbating during class, and the principal order him sit in front of Chia-Yi. During, English class, Ke Jing Teng found Shen Jiayi did not English textbooks, so he decide to secretly handed over to her textbook, and stood up and told the teacher he forgot to brings textbooks, he was scolded by the teacher and get punishment. Jia-yi, touched by Ching-teng's kindness, so she prepares a practice exam for him in return, to encourage him to study. Chia yi also persuade him to stay together after class to study with her. The relationship grows and Chin Teng’s result improve a lot.

After graduation, Ke Jinteng get the chance to enter National Chiao Tung University ,Shen Jiayi just manages to enter National Taipei University of Education because she did not do well in her admission exam due to illness on that day. She feels sad and frustrated. Although both of them separated in two places, Ke Jing Teng every night will call Shen Chia Yi to comfort her and have a sweet talk. During the  Christmas holidays, both of them have their first "date".  Ke Jing Teng asked Shen Jiayi if she likes him; although Shen Jiayi ready to say yes, but afraid about being reject, Ke Jing Teng decides that he would rather not to hear the answer.

 

Later, Ke Jing Teng organize a fight night and invite Shen Jiayi to watch. He, hopes to show her his strength and impressed her. But after the game, Chia-yi finds it childish for Ching-teng to injure himself for no reason. This upsets Ching-teng, sparking a quarrel that causes the two to break up.

After breaking up within 2 years, Ke Jing Teng and Shen Jiayi have no contact with each other. Until the 921 earthquake that day, Ke Jing Teng immediately call Shen Jiayi asked is she are fine. During the long conversation, they both lament the fact that they were not fated to become a couple. 

In 2005, Shen Jiayi suddenly told him by phone that she wanted to get married, all of her old friends gather at the wedding party , and making jokes and trying to  planned to embarrass Shen Jiayi's husband, . Later, everyone gathered together to congratulate the bride and groom, and jokingly said to be able to kiss the bride; Shen Jiayi's husband said that anyone who wants to kiss the bride, have to kiss him first. Ke Jing Teng immediately grabbed the groom and kissed, and even pushed him down on the table, kissing hi likes he would kiss Shen Jiayi. During their kiss, all the memories flash back, he remembers how he regrets their fight from years ago, and what could have happened had he apologized for being childish. At the same time, the picture bring to Ke Jing Teng, he is facing the laptop at the coffee shop, he is typing their own feelings, a record of their youth memories of the novel was born...

 

 

 

Now let’s talk about the actors of the story, most of the main actors of the story are very young, Ko Cheng Tung play the role of Ke Chin Teng. You’re the apple of my eyes was first movie that Ko Chen-tung acting but he know how to his own advantage. He makes the whole story more interesting. I like him performance very much. Especially when Ke Jing Teng passed the English textbook to Shen Jia Yi, he took up the chair and give a evil smile and his face expression and eye contact really melt our heart, it was like “ I can do anything for the girl I love”. He successfully shows out how a young man attitude towards love.

Michelle Chen play the role of Shen Jia Yi, She make the character alive, no matter when she tie pony tails, she staring at Ke Chin Teng ,cry scene.. every single eye contact make us feel that this is the girl that stay in our heart during our school times.

They describe the characters in a very natural way and have amazing sparkling chemicals, so that every time I look at their scenes smile shyly. A film with a soft color matches a nostalgic theme. A striking combination of works.

The setting and scenery based on the beginning of year 1994 in Taiwan, the days everyone discuss about NBA, collecting the star card of Pennyhardaway and Kevingarnett. Wang Zuxian and Su Huilun is the famous female idol. This shows us what the people in 90’s was looking for. You’re an apple of my eye is mainly shooting in the  Ching Cheng High School (精誠中學), the school Giddens and Shen Chia-yi attended.The director said he chose the school because "he wanted so badly to see Ko Chen-tung and Michelle Chen in the school uniform that he remembered vividly. Due the main place in the school, so decided to shoot the rest of the film in Changhua County. Besides, the movie also film at 永乐街形象商圈 whre Jia yi and WanWan buy drinks and snacks. 阿璋肉圓, where the boys gather after class.美光理发店，成功火车站，八卦山大佛，台北菁桐火車站，平溪石底橋 and so on.

The story also structured base on the original novel of You’re an Apple of My Eyes. The beginning of the movie full of dirty humor that i think it’s not bad and bring out the real high school life. In the middle, the film is more focused on the romantic side, which makes me so moved. The story is simple and captivating. I like this story to capture adolescent love and youthful times, let me return to those days. People are so ordinary, the conflict is so natural, people can be a connection so well.

 The dialogue for the film actually was made up by many quotes. These quotes are from novel but still appear in the film and did not feel weird at all. These are the quotes that really melt our heart.

The main theme of this movie is friendship and love. The friendship between Jing Teng and his class is very solid. When the teacher doubt one of the classmate steal the class fees and want them to point out the name of 3 student that have the biggest possibility to steal it. But all of them reject to do it. This shows their trust their friends a lot and their friendship is very strong. About the love part between Jing Teng and Jia Yi, they dislike each other,after that fall in love but missed it at the end.

I really love this movie a lot, i will give 4.5/5. The ending of the story is bittersweet but this is the real life story, it did not back to happy ending like others movies does. It giving the warm feeling in your heart. It tells you that these things do not mean anything in life, when you recall those old memories, you will realize that these are the most beautiful and the best memories, so you become more better people you are today. This is a movie about growing up, but also trying to hold the past, put enough nostalgia so that when you flash bac your memories you will smile and appreciate it a lot. What i learn from this movie is missed someone you love maybe not necessary a bad things, we can learn something from it and become a better person.
